So being in charge of Relief Society activities, I was responsible for planning a celebrating for the wonderful Elders of the Langley Ward. Wanting to do something uniquely different, I remembered the Elders Quorum President telling me that he wanted to plan a Pinewood Derby for the Elders. Since months had passed and nothing had been planned, I decided we should plan it for them.
Cars were purchased and distributed. Food was bought and prepared. The track was retrieved and built (thanks to the help of some Elders). And then I started to panic. I'd never planned a Pinewood Derby. What was I doing? How was it all going to work? Was it going to work? Were people even going to have cars that were made?
The cars started to arrive and my fears subsided. They were creative, unique, and fun. Better than I could have imagined! People were enjoying themselves. The food was being eating.
The races began and the excitement heightened. It seemed that the Double Red Train was unbeatable. We had no rules or regulations for the cars. As a result, some of the cars were very interesting. We had a car that was catapulted to the finish line. People had been inventive and creative. The activity was a success!
